City Fight Back to Earn Share of the Spoils in Top-of-the-Table Clash

Adelaide City and Sturt Lions played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on Friday night, with the Black and Whites twice coming from behind to earn a valuable point in a top-of-the-table Women's State League clash at Adelaide City Park.

Yasmina Kasumovic continued her outstanding form in front of goal, scoring twice as City extended its unbeaten run and remained firmly in the hunt for the league title.

The Black and Whites made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when Kasumovic found the back of the net to put City ahead 1-0.

Sturt responded well, levelling through Izzy Barchiesi in the 15th minute before Charlotte Clarke struck deep into first-half stoppage time to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage heading into the break.

Head Coach Paul Morris reshuffled his side during the second half, introducing Grace Lukac, Mawa Sumaoro and Kiara O'Sullivan as City searched for an equaliser.

The breakthrough came just three minutes after the restart, with Kasumovic again stepping up to score her second of the evening and restore parity at 2-2.

Both sides continued to press for a winner in an entertaining second half, but disciplined defending at either end ensured the points were shared in what proved to be an absorbing contest between the competition's two leading teams.

The result sees Adelaide City remain second on the Women's State League ladder on 33 points, three points behind Sturt Lions with the race for the Premiership still very much alive.

Attention now turns to Friday 3 July, when the Black and Whites travel to face Cove FC. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:15pm as City looks to return to winning ways.
