City play out goalless stalemate with Playford

Adelaide City has been held to a 0-0 draw against RAA National Premier League leaders Playford City at Ramsay Park on Saturday afternoon.

Head coach Vas Parhas made three changes to his side that suffered a shock Federation Cup defeat midweek against Cumberland United.

Yuki Kitano, Giorgio Parhas and Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio all came into the starting 11 at the expense of Nicholas Bucco, Daniel Bressan and Francesco Schimizzi for the Round 10 contest.

City began with the ascendancy, and they enjoyed their best chance of the half in the 13th minute.

Domenic Costanzo sent a delightful diagonal switch to Nicholas Francese who controlled expertly before his layoff set up Asad Kasumovic.

The forward’s deflected effort produced a brilliant, reaction save by Patriots and former City goalkeeper Luke Ostbye which fell to Yuki Kitano who could not convert on the follow up, with his instinctive attempt hitting the crossbar from inside the six-yard box.

The match ebbed and flowed after the re-start with both teams exchanging chances but neither team could find the breakthrough.

In the final minute of regular time City fashioned a great opportunity to score the winner, though were unable to capitalise.

Bressan played a ball down the line for Schimizzi and his back-post cross picked out Lawrie-Lattanzio who fired a low, venomous strike but Ostbye was equal to it.

It meant the visitors had to settle for a share of the spoils despite being the superior outfit on the day.

However, the clean sheet for Parhas’ chargers will be a positive as they maintain their status as the best defence in the competition.

City remain in fourth position in the league standings with 18 points, five behind the new frontrunners West Torrens Birkalla after their 2-1 victory over West Adelaide.

Next up for Adelaide City is a home clash against fifth place FK Beograd this Saturday with kick off at 2:30pm.
