City return to winning ways with 2-0 win and extend unbeaten streak

Adelaide City has claimed a professional 2-0 win over Elizabeth Grove at Adelaide City Park on Friday night, extending its undefeated streak to 14 matches in the Apex Steel Women’s State League.

The Black and Whites consigned Elizabeth to a fourth consecutive loss after goals from Yasmina Kasumovic and Nakita Pereira in each half guaranteed a return to the winner’s circle.

Paul Morris’ side could be forgiven for being a little rusty in what was the team’s first match since late June.

Inclement weather postponed the club’s match against Cove on July 3 and last week the side also had off due to Cup Final weekend.

However, the hosts found the breakthrough in the 24th minute with Kasumovic on target for a third straight game, putting City ahead. It was her eighth goal of the campaign and an impressive fifth in her past three fixtures.

Midway during the second half Pereira put the result beyond doubt with her sixth league goal.

The result maintains the pressure on first-placed Sturt Lions, who currently hold a six-point buffer, though City do have two matches in hand.

Second meets third when City face Modbury Jets at Smith Partners Stadium in its next match Saturday night.
