Adelaide City Football Club is proud to confirm that Australian football pioneer John Moriarty will be in attendance at the Club’s 80th Anniversary Gala.
Few figures hold a more significant place in Australian football history than Moriarty, whose contribution to the game extends far beyond his time at Adelaide City.
A member of Adelaide City during the Club’s formative years, Moriarty went on to become the first Indigenous player selected to represent Australia, breaking new ground and paving the way for future generations of footballers.

His achievements on the field were matched by his impact away from the game. Following his playing career, Moriarty became a highly respected businessman, artist and advocate for Indigenous education, dedicating much of his life to creating opportunities for young Australians through the John Moriarty Foundation.
His story is one of resilience, leadership and achievement, making him one of the most influential figures in Australian football history.
For Adelaide City, Moriarty represents an important link to the Club’s rich heritage and the people who helped shape its identity during its early years.

His presence at the 80th Anniversary Gala provides a unique opportunity to celebrate not only his contribution to Adelaide City, but also his broader impact on Australian football and Australian society.
As the Club reflects on eight decades of history, it is fitting that one of the game's true pioneers will be part of the celebrations.
More legends and championship-winning players will be announced in the lead-up to the event as Adelaide City prepares to celebrate 80 years of history.
Be part of our story — 80 years in the making.
