NPL 2026 Grand Final Preview: Adelaide City vs West Torrens Birkalla
The stage is set for Friday night’s blockbuster between Adelaide City and West Torrens Birkalla in the 2026 RAA National Premier League SA Grand Final.
Fittingly, the two best teams all season square off in the decider and a chance to add coveted silverware to their trophy cabinet.
The Black and Whites will be targeting their first South Australian Championship since 2022 when they went back-to-back.
City finished the regular season at the top of the table and have been formidable in the back end of the year, conceding just once in their previous six matches.
Last weekend they dispatched Playford City 6-0 at Oakden to win 8-1 on aggregate, playing some scintillating attacking football.
Meanwhile, Birkalla finished the campaign in second spot, one point behind City and secured a strong 2-0 victory over MetroStars to claim a 4-2 aggregate triumph.
The Eagles will be looking to end a Championship drought, last clinching the state title back in 1998.
If the two encounters involving both team is anything to go by, another tight contest is highly anticipated with each side prevailing with 1-0 wins in their home fixtures.
In City’s case their 1-0 success in late July ultimately proved the difference in the title race as they leapfrogged Birkalla and duly took full advantage.
Vas Parhas’ men will naturally enter the clash as slight favourites but with both teams adopting similar playing styles – expect a real arm wrestle in the midfield and potentially limited opportunities.
Birkalla scored 11 more goals than City in the regular season, while the Zebras conceded 11 goals fewer than their opponents – further evidence of how little separates the two clubs.
Friday night at Gepps Cross certainly promises to be a fascinating final with City determined to clinch another trophy in their 80th anniversary.
