NPL Round 14 Preview: Adelaide United v Adelaide City

It is third against fifth in Round 14 of the RAA National Premier League as Adelaide City face Adelaide United Youth at Gepps Cross on Saturday night.

City enter the clash five games unbeaten – including consecutive wins – and will be looking to continue their strong form against the Young Reds.

The Black and Whites currently lie six points clear of this weekend’s opponents and know another victory will not only distance themselves from the chasing pack, but also keep the pressure on the teams above them.

Vas Parhas’ side have showed great improvement in the attacking third in recent weeks and dispatched Sturt Lions 4-1 last time out. Two goals from Asad Kasumovic and a goal each from Domenic Costanzo and Daniel Bressan secured the dominant win

The trio of Yuki Kitano, Kasumovic, and Costanzo have been integral to their recent success, alongside contributions from other parts of the field.

United, meanwhile, have faulted of late and suffered a 3-1 loss to West Adelaide in Round 13. They will want to snap a two-game winless streak to remain inside the top six and maintain their hopes for finals football.

In the reverse fixture back in March, the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Oakden with the visitors opening the scoring before falling behind only for United to equalise.

Saturday night’s contest promises to be another highly anticipated affair with both teams sharing similar philosophies, predicated on offensive football and keeping possession.
