Relentless City rout Campbelltown 4-0

A rampant first half from Adelaide City has moved them a step closer to the RAA National Premier League title following a 4-0 thrashing of Campbelltown City at Steve Woodcock Sports Centre on a freezing Friday night.

Four goals from four different scorers highlighted the utter dominance in a near flawless display with Yuki Kitano, Asad Kasumovic, Domenic Costanzo and Luis Lawrie-Lattanzio all clinically converting their chances.

The crucial victory guarantees City’s status at the top of the table for at least another week and means destiny remains in their hands – knowing wins in their final two fixtures will secure the Premiers crown.

Vas Parhas made just the one change to his starting line up with Brad Corbo replacing the injured Yared Abetew at centre-back.

It was the side from Oakden who made a blistering start.

Kitano netted his 13th goal of the season inside four minutes, after being afforded too much time and space to run at the Red Devils defence.

The striker received a first-time pass from Lawrie-Lattanzio before driving at Jordan Elsey and his side-footed finish nestled into the bottom far corner for his third goal in four matches.

As City continued to maintain most of the possession, they made it 2-0 on 22 minutes.

Patrick Caraccia dispossessed his opponent as Campbelltown looked to break quickly with the loose ball falling to Daniel Bressan.

The midfielder looked up and clipped a delightful, elevated pass over the static defence to pick out an unmarked Kasumovic, who broke the offside trap, and flicked the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper to head into an empty net.

City’s night continued to get better when Kasumovic then turned provider in the 28th minute after his sweeping cross to the back post was met by Costanzo’s header, which gloveman Matthew Centofanti could not repel.

The visitors were unrelenting and illustrated just why they are the competition’s leaders with the fourth goal a demonstration of sheer quality and ruthlessness as the lead became unassailable 10 minutes before half time.

Bressan’s second assist outdid his first, sending a long aerial ball from inside his own half beyond the defence and into the path of Lawrie-Lattanzio. At full speed the winger expertly controlled with a deft first touch and rolled his finish past the stranded goalkeeper.

The Black and Whites naturally took their foot off the accelerator in the second half with the damage already inflicted.

They even had a couple of opportunities late on to add insult to injury.

Complacency was never an issue as City cruised to an emphatic win to extend their undefeated streak to 13 games.
