WSL Round 20 Preview: South Adelaide v Adelaide City

Adelaide City return to action in the Apex Steel Women’s State League when it takes on cellar-dwellers South Adelaide away on Friday night.

The Black and Whites will have recovered from their 3-1 win over Cove FC on Monday night, where they closed the gap to three points on leaders Sturt Lions with an extra game still to play.

Paul Morris’ team will be raring to go and looking to take advantage of Panthers’ miserable season where they lie bottom of the ladder with just two wins.

City dispatched South 7-1 in their most recent meeting back in June, however on their last visit to O’Sullivan Beach Sports & Community Centre they were held to a 1-1 draw.

Avoiding a repeat of that result will be the primary focus for the Zebras as the fight for the title is set to go down to the wire.

City enter Friday’s contest undefeated in their previous 17 league fixtures, while South Adelaide played out a 1-1 stalemate against third-place Adelaide Jaguars.

With the hosts still playing for pride, the clash will be far from a formality for the Oakden-based club and cognisant they will need to acquit themselves in a professional manner to collect the vital victory and maintain their minor premiership ambitions.

The Reserves will begin the evening at 6:15pm before the Seniors kick off at 8:30pm.
