How Good Was Oakden?

There was something special about Adelaide City Park last Friday night.

A crowd of 1,408 came through the gates for Adelaide City’s opening home match of the 2026 Australian Championship, helping turn Oakden into a genuine national-stage occasion.

From the quiet of the ground earlier in the day to the colour, noise and activity that followed, Adelaide City Park took on a completely different feel.

Supporters arrived early, families and junior players filled the precinct, live entertainment added to the atmosphere and the food, beverage and hospitality areas were busy well before kick-off.

Around the pitch, the new eastern grandstand, PH8 Water Marquee, big screen and additional matchday infrastructure helped create an experience that felt bigger than a regular fixture.

But more than anything, it was the people who made the night.

The sight of supporters lining the fence, players connecting with fans after the match and so many young Adelaide City players and families around the venue was a reminder of what Oakden can be when the broader Club community comes together.

The atmosphere continued right through the night, with supporters staying behind after the final whistle and the players taking the time to acknowledge those who had come out to support them.

For our first Australian Championship home match, it was a night that showed what Adelaide City Park can look and feel like on the national stage.

And now, we get to do it again.

This Friday night, Adelaide City welcomes Wests APIA FC to Oakden for Round 2 of the Australian Championship.

The same broader matchday experience will return, including the Kids Zone, hospitality, bars, merchandise and food and beverage options, with some different food vendors joining us for Round 2.

If you were part of the 1,408 last Friday, we’d love to see you back.

And if you missed it, Friday night is your next chance.

Back on the National Stage.
