Adelaide City’s quest for top spot and automatic promotion goes down to the wire on Sunday in Round 22 of the Apex Steel Women’s State League season.
City enter the final matchday level on points (51) with Sturt Lions but in second place due to an inferior goal difference. Just one goal separates the two teams with the Lions boasting a +53 goal difference to City’s +52.
That was following Paul Morris’ team winning 4-0 in their catch-up clash midweek against Western Strikers with Natasha Vella and Natalie Frantzis scoring braces.

It is a remarkable finish to the campaign where the permutations could not be any closer.
On paper though it is hard to argue that Sturt remain favourites given their opponent is South Adelaide who lie at the bottom of the standings, while the Black and Whites take on a Jaguars outfit in third spot.
Sturt has also been in free-scoring form, netting 24 goals across their past three games.
Despite Sunday’s opponents 21 points adrift of City, they are unbeaten in their previous four fixtures and most recently defeated Elizabeth Grove 4-1.
Assuming Sturt triumph, it will be a case of City needing to better that result to have a shot of returning to the Apex Steel Women’s National Premier League, avoiding the playoffs.
