On Monday, representatives from each of the 16 Australian Championship clubs gathered in Melbourne to launch the 2026 campaign.

Adelaide City captain Nicholas Bucco represented the club and reflected on its history and the unique opportunity for his squad to add another page to it.

“It is massive,” Bucco shared on Adelaide City’s qualification for the competition.

“We are celebrating our 80th year this year. We are a proud, historic club with a lot of history, three national championships, three national cups.

“To be in another national tournament now is a huge opportunity to add to that tally; it's terrific.”

Bucco shared his pride in not only leading the Black and White back to the national stage, but in doing it as South Australia’s Champions and sole representatives.

“To be representing South Australia in this tournament as Champions of South Australia in our 80th year means everything.

“We are going to do our best to represent Adelaide City and South Australia to the best of our ability.”

When asked about the atmosphere around the club leading up to the big occasion, Bucco shared the excitement he has felt as Round One of the group stage approaches.

“The club is buzzing; the supporters are buzzing. There is a really good vibe that we are going to get a lot of people at our ground. “

Be there among the crowd at Adelaide City Park cheering on Bucco and his side on Friday night against Avondale FC!
