Championship-winning stars from Adelaide City’s NSL golden era to attend 80th Gala

Updated: May 26

Adelaide City Football Club is proud to confirm that several stars from the Club’s successful early 1990s era will be in attendance at the 80th Anniversary Gala.

Following the breakthrough national championship in 1986, Adelaide City again rose to the top of Australian football by claiming National Soccer League titles in 1992 and 1994.

Players including, Carlo Talladira, Robert Zabica, Goran Lozanovski, Joe Barbaro, Michael Brooks, along with Carl Veart, Joe Mullen and Sergio Melta all played important roles throughout that successful period.

Talladira brought creativity and attacking quality, while Lozanovski developed into a key attacking threat.

Robert Zabica provided the legendary presence in goal that underpinned the Club's defensive stability during the rise through the early 1990s.

Joe Barbaro and Michael Brooks added further strength and experience to the squad, while Joe Mullen and Sergio Melta remained central figures across multiple championship-winning sides.

The Club’s strength during this period also helped launch the career of former Adelaide United head coach and Socceroo Carl Veart, who began his senior career at Adelaide City before going on to achieve success at both domestic and international level.

Together, these players helped establish a winning culture that defined Adelaide City during one of the strongest periods in the Club’s history.

Be part of our story — 80 years in the making.
