One of South Australian football’s most respected figures, Carl Veart will attend Adelaide City Football Club’s 80th Anniversary Gala as part of a special evening celebrating the Club’s rich history and achievements.
Born in Whyalla on 21 May 1970, Veart became a key figure during one of Adelaide City’s most successful eras following his arrival from Salisbury United in 1989.
Nicknamed the “flame-haired powerhouse youngster”, Veart quickly established himself as a fan favourite through his physical presence, versatility and relentless style of play.

Across two spells with Adelaide City between 1989-1994 and 1998-2004, Veart made 304 appearances and scored 77 goals, playing in a variety of positions from centre forward through to centre defence.
Alongside players such as Steve Maxwell, Veart formed part of a powerful Adelaide City side that enjoyed significant success throughout the NSL era, including the Club’s championship-winning campaigns in 1992 and 1994.

During his time away from Adelaide City, Veart spent four seasons in English football with Sheffield United, Crystal Palace and Millwall before returning home to continue his playing career in Australia.
Veart also etched his name into Australian football history by scoring the first-ever goal in A-League Men history for Adelaide United in 2005.
At international level, Veart represented the Socceroos on 18 occasions after making his debut in 1992, scoring seven goals for Australia.

Following his playing career, Veart transitioned into coaching and continued to play a major role in South Australian football, including serving as both a player and Head Coach at Adelaide United.
He currently serves as Head Coach of Australia’s Under-17 National Team, continuing his contribution to the development of the next generation of Australian footballers.

Reflecting on his time at Adelaide City, Veart said: “I’ve made some great friendships here and learnt a lot of not just football but life lessons as well.
“There’s a very strong relationship among the players and the support around the club is very close.
“We always enjoyed coming to training and enjoyed playing – it was just a great atmosphere to be involved in.”

His attendance at the 80th Anniversary Gala adds to a growing list of club greats, championship-winning players and significant figures from Adelaide City’s history who will come together to celebrate 80 years of the Black & White.
The Gala will provide supporters, members, players and the wider football community with a rare opportunity to reconnect with the people and moments that shaped Adelaide City Football Club across eight decades.
More legends and special guests will continue to be announced in the lead-up to the event.
Be part of our story — 80 years in the making.
