A plucky Adelaide City has suffered a 3-1 loss to Women’s National Premier League outfit West Torrens Birkalla in the Second Round of the Apex Steel WNPL/WSL Cup on Friday night.
It was always going to be a tough assignment for the Apex Steel Women’s State League side, but the Black and Whites performed admirably despite the result, particularly in the second half.

City’s resistance was broken seven minutes before the break when Sarah Chappel opened the scoring for the hosts at Jack Smith Park.
On 44 minutes Birkalla added a second via Elle Pirintzis, a real blow to City’s ambitions of staying in the contest prior to the interval.
But an own goal from Pirintzis three minutes after the restart provided a glimmer of hope for Paul Morris’ side and put Birkalla under pressure.
However, in stoppage time Angela Mills restored the two-goal margin for the home team, dashing dreams of a ‘cupset’.
City will look to take the positives from the clash when it returns to league action against Sturt Lions next Friday night.
