NPL Round 11 Preview: Adelaide City vs FK Beograd

It is fourth versus fifth when Adelaide City hosts FK Beograd in Round 11 of the RAA National Premier League on Saturday.

Just one point separates the two sides on the table with the Black and Whites desperate to return to the winner’s circle.

Vas Parhas’ men were unable to translate their dominance into a victory against then ladder leaders Playford City, held to a 0-0 stalemate last weekend.

“We were on top probably for 80% of the game, the ball just didn’t want to go into the back of the net,” City midfielder Patrick Caraccia, who was voted the Peter Shearer Fan Player of the Match, said upon reflection.

Indeed, that statement is not in isolation, as an inability to convert chances into goals has been somewhat a concerning trend for City in recent weeks.

The Zebras have scored just two goals in their previous four league games, failing to find the back of the net in three of those matches. Four times if you include the 1-0 Federation Cup loss to Cumberland United.

But Caraccia is remaining optimistic and has full confidence that the team’s fortunes will change very quickly.

“It hasn’t been obviously what we’ve wanted, but come towards the end of the season we’re just going to start flying,” he said, believing they’re close to firing on all cylinders.

“Something is brewing, I feel like we’re just going to do something good and the plan is to win the next two trophies up for grabs.”

The 27-year-old felt it was difficult to pinpoint the exact reason behind the lack of fluidity in attack, however suggested the players are better understanding each other’s movements and tendencies with every game.

“Recently we haven’t scored many so that obviously doesn’t help,” he admitted.

“But I feel like all the new players that have come in are gelling with the old players – the new players gelling with the new players.

“I feel like it’s all slowly coming together now.”

City entertain an in-form Beograd outfit who arrive at Oakden off the back of three successive wins, most recently dispatching Campbelltown City 3-1.

Caraccia said they will need to be wary of their strengths though was confident in the squad’s ability to collect three points.

“The goal is to win, they’re always a tough opponent,” he continued.

“They’re hard to play against – obviously if Trimmers (Antoni Trimboli) is fit he’s lethal up top, even Jason Konstandopoulos and young Froribert Niyonkuru looks like he’s having a good season.

“It’s going to be a challenge that’s for sure, but I still think we’re much better than them and we’ll get the win.”
