A blockbuster clash awaits Adelaide City when they face RAA National Premier League leaders West Torrens Birkalla at Jack Smith Park on Friday night.
Despite both team’s strong starts to the campaign, they each come into the match off the back of their maiden league defeats a fortnight ago.
City suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Sturt Lions while Birkalla shipped four goals in a 4-2 setback against Croydon Kings.
City captain Nicholas Bucco was anticipating a hard-fought contest at Jack Smith Park, referencing his side’s previous visit to the venue, a 4-0 away rout last season.

Bucco was hoping to avoid a repeat and envisaged his side will be up for the occasion, determined to avenge that result.
“I’m expecting a very, very tough game,” the veteran midfielder admitted to Adelaide City’s official website.
“Especially with what happened last year at their ground, we didn’t have the best of nights.
“But I am fully expecting a strong response from our boys after our last league game against Sturt.
“So I know we’re going to be up for it, I know that we’re going to be going out there to win that game and dominate that game.
“I fully expect goals from us, and I expect us to try to keep a clean sheet and defend with our lives.”
As mentioned, Birkalla sit at the summit of the table after seven matches with 16 points, two clear of fourth-placed City.
But the Novar Gardens-based club have leaked a combined eight goals in their last two games after beating State League Two North outfit Pontian Eagles 5-4 in the Federation Cup last weekend.
Following a strong 4-1 cup triumph against Gawler Eagles, Bucco believed the squad still had lots of room for improvement, especially at both ends of the pitch.
“I think ruthlessness in both boxes, attacking and defending could improve,” he said.
“We asked each other to improve in front of goal with chance creation and our attacking intent with the runs and combinations.
“I thought I saw a lot of improvement in that against Gawler, now we must take it to another level going up against a pretty decent defence in Birkalla.
“Defensively, defending our box and being ruthless in our own box to not concede.
“I think that’s a big area of improvement we can make for sure.”
