WSL Round 10 Preview: Elizabeth Grove v Adelaide City

After a week off, Adelaide City will be determined to continue the momentum they have generated in recent weeks when they take on Elizabeth Grove on Friday night.

City, second on the table, come into the match in stellar form, winning its previous three matches in the Apex Steel Women’s State League, most recently defeating Cove FC 2-0.

Grove, meanwhile, snapped a three-game losing run with a 2-1 win over South Adelaide and lie in fourth place.

City attacker Millie Scott said they will need to be mindful of a fired-up Elizabeth side in front of their home fans at Dauntsey Reserve.

“Obviously we’re playing away so I’m sure that they’ll come out hungry for it,” Scott said.

“The plan is to go in the same way as we have even stronger.

“We set the bar now, so we’ve just got to keep building from that bar we’ve set and go out and take three points away from them.

“… I’m sure Paul (Morris) and the coaching staff will build on and give us some tips on what we can work on.

Another three points for the second-placed Black and Whites will be crucial to keep the pressure on ladder leaders Sturt Lions.

Scott, who has scored a goal in each of her last three matches, highlighted the importance of starting strongly.

Setting the tone early will also be key; an area she believes they can improve in.

“We want to keep that gap nice and close, we don’t want to fall behind,” she added, knowing they can ill afford to drop points in their title aspirations.

“I think tactically just start well early. We’ve had a few slow starts in the first half, so just come out and put a few goals away in the first half.”
