WSL Round 9 Preview: Adelaide City vs Cove FC

Adelaide City head coach Paul Morris said his side’s approach won’t change when they host Cove FC in Round 9 of the Apex Steel Women’s State League.

As the country celebrates Female Football Week, the Black and Whites return to Adelaide City Park as part of a double header with the men’s team Saturday night.

City, second on the table, come into the match in strong form following an impressive 3-0 victory over ladder leaders Sturt Lions.

Meanwhile, Cove climbed into fourth place after defeating South Adelaide 2-0.

It will be the second time the two sides will meet this season with, the Zebras recording a come-from-behind away triumph in the reverse fixture.

“When we played them the first game we had a good 4-2 away win,” Morris told Adelaide City’s official website.

“They have a couple of good players, Chantelle Ryder is there who’s a very experienced WNPL player.

“But we just expect more of the same. We’ll set up the same way we played them away.

“Our confidence is good at the moment, I wouldn’t expect anything else but a win Saturday night.

“It’s good to get back at home, we’ve been away for a few weeks. I think it’s been four weeks since we’ve played at home, so good to have a double header with the men and hopefully we can both get good results.”

Morris said the key to maintaining their formidable league form was to keep doing the basics right and not looking to far ahead into the future.

He also added the belief and togetherness within the squad is high.

“We spoke three weeks ago that we had this block of games coming up against (Adelaide) Jaguars who were second, and then the cup games against Birkalla and then the top of the table clash against Sturt,” he said.

“But we’ve treated each game the old cliché of one game at a time and that’s how we’re taking it.

“We just look ahead one week and set ourselves each week and then focus on the following weekend.

“We’ll prepare well again in training this week and look to set ourselves up for victory especially with Sturt playing Jaguars.

“If Jaguars can get a result there, they’re coming off a good win as well, so we’ve got good momentum.

“The girls are in good heart and good spirits and the morale is fantastic, so we expect to take that forward. But as I said we just take one game at a time and we’ll keep moving forward that way the rest of the season.”
